All-State Honors Band
Clinic Weekend
April 23, 2005
President
David Albert called the business meeting of the North Carolina Bandmasters
Association to order at 2:00 PM in room 217 at UNC-Greensboro.
The
minutes were approved as presented.
The
TreasurerÕs Report was approved as presented.
Dr.
Jennifer Stewart addressed the membership in absence of Dr. John Locke.
The Clinic
Chairs for each band made comments about how things were going.
Ed Rooker
(Clinician Coordinator) also addressed the membership about the clinicians.
1) All-State
Honors Band
a)
Solo
list remains the same for one more year.
b)
Submit
any changes to President Albert by the 2006 All-State Honors Band Clinic.
c)
Dates
for auditions will be March 4, 2006 at East Davidson High School and Brown Middle School.
d)
If
you are interested in hosting auditions, please submit a proposal to President
Albert.
e)
All-State
Honors Band Clinic for 2006: April 21 – 23, 2006 at UNCG.
The clinic will not be held at UNCG in 2007 and 2008. Phillip Riggs will chair the committee to find a location for 2007 and 2008. If anyone has a suggestion, please forward to Phillip Riggs.
f)
Clinicians
for 2006: 11/12: Dr. John Locke, 9/10: Dr. Thomas Fraschillo, MS: Charles Menghini
g)
Perry
Ditch will chair a committee to develop audition procedures/policies. If you
have any concerns/comments/suggestions please forward to Perry.
2) Concert
Band Festival
a)
New
Music Clinic is a place to add new music and fix/change where a piece is on the
list.
b)
Thanks
to Stephan Stuber for hosting the New Music Clinic.
c)
Thanks
to Mary May, Arris Golden and Robert Hunter for organizing this year new music
clinic. The membership that attended was asked to complete the survey.
d)
Phillip
Riggs is the chair for standardizing judging for our concert band festivals
across North Carolina. If you have any suggestions, please send to Phillip.
e)
Festival
ratings from each district due to President Albert by June 1, 2005.
3) Jazz
Report –
Jerry Lowe
a)
Jerry
gave general comments on the events held this year.
b)
More
sites will be available for festivals next year.
c)
A
suggestion that the State Jazz Chair and Region Jazz Chairs do not change at
the same time.
4) Marching
Band Committee Report – Mark Beamish
a)
A handout
was provided for the membership that had the ÒhighlightsÓ of what has been
discussed and changed for the following year.
b)
The
members of the committee were introduced/announced.
5) NCBA
Website
– Bill Pendergrass
a)
Thanks
for your support.
b)
Additional
folks that will help: Tom Moncrief will help with the Jazz Page and Ron Payne
will help with the Marching Band page.
c)
Email
list is available for the membership to send info concerning state events.
d)
Please
use the message board to announce camps, clinics, etc.
e)
Chat
room will be available for members of committees. Do not give the info for the
room to non-NCBA members and general public.
f)
Send
district calendars to Amy Hinson for one inclusive calendar for the state.
6) Sight-reading – Richard Holmes
a)
Mainly
positive comments given.
b)
Last
item of business for the committee was to develop procedures to order and
organize the sight reading music. This item has been completed and approved by
the State NCBA Board.
7) District
Calendars
A
copy of each districtÕs calendar is due to President Albert by June 1, 2005.

of Fame Nominations
Hall
of Fame nominations due to President Albert by September 1, 2005.

Results are listed in the order of contact for each band in
2007.

Lines

Albert gave reasons as to why we are beginning to take a look into redrawing
district lines.
b)
ÒFact
FindingÓ mission until November 2005 – what we are doing and why?
November 2005 until April 2006 – proposal/solution
developed and presented (if needed).

Announcement

was discussion on the map of district lines, as we know them now.

to Consider/Other Concerns/Announcements
a)
NCMEA
is talking about making the Jazz Chair a voting member of the state NCMEA
board.
b)
The
NCBA State Board is talking about asking for a MS Band Rep to serve on the
NCMEA Board as a voting member.
c)
Comments
made about the constitution/bylaws concerning electronic music for festival.
d)
Neil
UnderwoodÕs band will be performing in Washington, DC at the WW II Memorial.
e)
Best
showing of membership with instruments at the New Music Clinic in recent
memory.
f)
The
bandroom at Grimsley High School was dedicated in Herb HazelmanÕs honor.
g)
There
was discussion on textbook money.
h)
There
was discussion concerning allowing conductors to finish early than stated in
All-State Honors Band information.
The
meeting of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association was adjourned at 3:55 PM.
