Meeting Called to Order at 2:02pm

 

Phillip recognized past NCBA presidents in the room and thanked them for their service.

 

 

Minutes from 2006 Convention Meetings approved-Perry Ditch

 

Treasurers Report approved- Deborah Phillips

 

District FeeÕs have been paid in Full

 

 

2008 Clinic Dates were given:          Auditions: March  East Davidson/Brown Middle

                                                            Clinic: April 18-20 NC School of the Arts

 

Future Clinic Dates:  A survey was given to the membership asking them to select the days that would best meet the needs of the future of the All-State Bands:

 

A )First Rehearsal Friday afternoon, concert Sunday Afternoon (current schedule)

B) First Rehearsal Friday 10:00am, concert Saturday 6:00pm

C) First Rehearsal Thursday PM, concert Saturday Afternoon

 

Results: 16 for A, 56 for B, 26 for C

 

 

Phillip thanked UNC-Chapel Hill and Jeff Fuchs for hosting the event and complimented him and the students for being very organized.

 

 

Phillip Presented a motion from the board to add the following to the judges guidelines letter M: In the event that a director judges their own student(s) that directorÕs score(s) will not be added to the studentÕs total score.

Membership Approved

 

New Music Clinic:  Richard reported that the clinic went well and said if there are any suggestions to send to him.

 

 

Festival Committee: Arris Golden (chairperson) said that district presidents will submit two names from each district to serve on the committee.  Will get together this summer and look into creating a rubric for judges sheet and criteria for music list.

 

Marching Band Committee:   Tim Wise let the membership know that all of the evaluation forms are looked over and discusses with the committee.  Committee looked at some revisions in the timing and penalties.  The new procedure handbook is online, clinics and workshops for directors are planned and dates will be available on the website.

 

Jazz Section:   New information on website, if you have a band that is interested in performing at convention for the Jazz Section, you need to send information to Andy.

 

Director Retention Committee:  Bob Buckner (chairperson) a representative from each district will be on this committee, they will meet sometime this summer.  They will look at the possibilities of a Directors Handbook

 

 

Website:  Bill Pendergrass said that next year we will have all forms online and payment by paypal as an option.

 

Honors Solo list Criteria:  Proposed Criteria for HonorÕs Band Audition was voted on an approved.

 

 

 

Membership approved nomination of  Ed Rooker for the Lowell Masson award.  Each district will pay $166 to cover the nomination fee of $1,000.

 

Eastern District Motion for HonorÕs Band Clinic:

 

After the results of the survey were announced to the membership, their was much discussion on what to do.  The eastern district had a pending motion that was to be voted on at the meeting.   This motion was:  HonorÕs Band Clinic would be changed to a Thursday-Friday clinic with a Saturday afternoon concert.  Jorge Benitez president of the eastern district amended the motion to:  HonorÕs Band Clinic would be a Friday-Saturday clinic with concert held Saturday Night.  Again there was much discussion.  The motion was Approved.

 

Phillip said that he would see if the change could be made in the 2008 clinic.
