PROGRAM OF MERIT

The NCBA Program of Merit is designed to inclusively recognize and commend middle and high school band programs across North Carolina, offering an equitable opportunity for recognition that transcends student numbers, geographic location, and resource availability. Unlike competitive recognitions seen in other states, this program celebrates the achievements of all participating bands on an equitable basis, ensuring that every band that meets the criteria can be acknowledged for their commitment to musical excellence, performance, community outreach, and advocacy. By fostering an environment of acknowledgment rather than competition, the Program of Merit aims to enhance the musical education landscape in North Carolina, making it possible for every band program that aspires to excellence, regardless of their starting point, to be celebrated and supported in their endeavors.

PROGRAM OF DISTINCTION

​

The NCBA Program of Distinction extends the recognition framework of the Program of Merit by including a critical component of external evaluation. It is designed to commend middle and high school band programs across North Carolina that not only meet the inclusive standards of the Program of Merit but also achieve "Excellent" or "Superior" ratings from adjudicators at Concert Band MPA. This additional criterion ensures a more rigorous assessment of musical quality and performance, elevating the standards of public recognition. Like the Program of Merit, the Program of Distinction offers an equitable opportunity for recognition that transcends student numbers, geographic location, and resource availability. It celebrates the exceptional achievements of bands that excel in musical excellence, performance, community outreach, and advocacy, thus contributing significantly to the enhancement of the musical education landscape in North Carolina. By incorporating an element of external validation, the Program of Distinction not only acknowledges but also inspires high standards of musical accomplishment and educational impact.​
