9/10 and 11/12 Percussion Requirements
Anything out of the chromatic range on the solos will be played as is for All-State Auditions.

11/12 Trombone Solo: Tempo - dotted quarter note = 132

11/12 Horn Solo: Change 1st Note in Line 6, Measure 4 to Ab.

9/10 Tuba Scales - Ab scale is now 2 octaves and the chromatic scale extends to Ab.
11/12 Tuba Scales - Chromatic starts and ends on E instead of F.
SOLOS - NO REPEATS ARE TO BE PLAYED AND ONLY 2ND ENDINGS ARE TO BE TAKEN.
Adjudication of Scales
Any error in articulation (wrong articulation or mixed articulation) will be a .5 deduction.
May use deductions as small a tenth of a point for other errors.
Adjudication of Solos/Sight-reading - May ONLY use deductions of .5 point or a full point.

Baritone Saxophone players (MS, 9/10, 11/12) should play the same scales as Alto Saxophone.
The 9/10 Baritone Saxophone scales have been revised and posted.
The scales, E and F, are now 2 octaves for 9/10 Baritone Saxophone.
All other grade level scales (MS and 11/12) matched between alto and baritone saxophones previously.

Beginning 2015-2016, all middle school saxophones will play the same solo as the alto saxophone.

For the 2015 auditions, there will no longer be a separate scale sheet for the Eb Contra-Alto Clarinet. All low clarinets of any key will now use the Bb Bass Clarinet Scale Sheet. This is for ALL grade levels. Students may audition on Bb Bass Clarinet, Eb Contra-Alto Clarinet, or Bb Contra-Bass Clarinet but ALL will use the Bb Bass Clarinet Scale Sheet.
String Bass Scales Revised and Posted
The audition committee has been in the process of reviewing each solo rotation in June for
the upcoming school or academic year. The committee has one more year left for this review
cycle. Should the committee recommend any changes or modifications, those changes will be presented to the NCBA Board for approval by November of the same year. Please double check
the solo lists after the NCMEA Professional Development Conference each year
(after November 15th) for any modifications or corrections to the solo list for the
current academic year.
