Dorothy (famous singer) was sister to high school band director, George Kirsten. Mr. Kirsten was one of the great leaders of the high school bands from Hibriten and Lenoir High Schools, in Lenoir NC (1940s - 1970s). Dorothy came to sing with the famous Lenoir High Band in 1948. She remarked when walking towards the auditorium and hearing the band, "George, how nice it was of you to have hired an orchestra." To which he said, "my dear, that is the Lenoir High School Band."
